Through Seneca Family Agency, Melinda joined our student support services team as a Clinical Intervention Specialist to support the psychosocial needs of our students and their families. Melinda is a San Mateo County native and has worked and volunteered in the East Palo Alto and surrounding communities for the past 10 years. As a first generation Mexican American, Melinda and her family have experienced multiple barriers associated with social injustice which drives her to continue serving and advocating for underserved communities. She believes that with adequate supports and services, every child can thrive and is inspired by diverse communities and their resiliency.
Melinda graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from San Francisco State University and a Master’s in Social Work emphasizing in Community Mental Health from California State University, East Bay and is currently a registered clinician. While pursuing postgraduate education, Melinda was a trainee at the San Francisco Unified School District and San Mateo County’s Behavioral Health and Recovery Services division. Melinda has also worked with families experiencing homelessness providing strength-based case management through crisis intervention and counseling services as well as coordinating therapeutic child care centers and STEM-based curricula to support youth and children overcome the adversities of homelessness.
Melinda loves spending time with friends and family, cooking traditional Mexican dishes, playing soccer and serving her community by volunteering for multiple organizations and causes.
