Gloria started living in East Palo Alto at the age of eight. She attended Cesar Chavez Elementary School and Carlmont High School before moving to Merced to attend UC Merced, where she got her BA in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. Gloria stated working at the California Autism Center and Learning Group in Merced as a behavior technician, working one-on-one with children in the spectrum. The experience was quite rewarding, but she decided to move back to East Palo Alto. A year later she heard about The Primary School through a family member, who recommended Gloria worked there since her values aligned with the school's. She was very excited to hear about the opportunity to work with her community, in hopes of making a positive change for their youth.
