Melanie joins The Primary School through Seneca Family of Agencies as a Student Support Counselor. She was born and raised in Canada but spent half of her life in the Bay Area. Melanie graduated from Portland State University receiving a BA in Sociology. Her experience with children includes volunteering and tutoring at an elementary school with IRCO, an organization that creates equitable services for immigrants and refugees in the Oregon and the southwestern Washington area. During her senior year in college she interned with Girl Scouts Beyond Bars, a program serving girls whose mothers and grandmothers are incarcerated.
Her passion for working with children and underserved communities is what brings her to The Primary School. She believes that cultivating compassion and unconditional care will bring positive change. Most of all she wants children to recognize and feel empowered by their resilience and for them to realize they are individuals of courage, confidence and character.
