Ann Walden

Ann is committed to building programs and systems that provide equitable and high quality educational opportunities for all children.

Ann is a Bay Area native, born and raised in San Mateo. Education has always been a part of Ann’s life. Growing up she worked as a teaching assistant in summer school programs, helped to start a volunteer program with a local elementary school in her neighborhood, and volunteered at her local Head Start. It was from these early experiences that Ann witnessed the challenges of providing equitable and engaging education for students when teachers, leaders and families were under-resourced and over-looked.

For over 10 years Ann has worked across non-profit, education, and philanthropic systems to coordinate, inspire, and support national and local efforts focused on educational equity.  Prior to joining The Primary School, Ann worked as the Program Director of Education Pioneers Chicago, as the Manager of Strategic Operations for a school network at Chicago Public Schools, and as the Education Program Officer at the Cullen Foundation.  Ann received her BA from Colby College, her MA from Columbia University Teachers College, and her MEd from the Broad Residency. She is also a mother to two wonderful little people who help her keep it all in perspective.
